The Rhosgoch Gossip was first launched many years ago as a newsletter devoted mainly to the activities of the children attending Rhosgoch Community Primary School. This establishment was a very important part of community life in the area over a long period and most local children started their academic lives within its colourful walls. The newsletter also regularly reported a few other local events, such as the various village shows and fetes and the activities of the many different special interest groups involving local people. It also provided regular news updates from the Community Council and from the various local chapels and from the Erwood and Painscastle Group of parishes, which includes places of worship at Aberedw, Bryngwyn, Crickadarn, Gwenddwr, Llanbadarn y Garreg, Llanbedr, Llandeilo Graban, Llandewi Fach and Newchurch. The Gossip also featured a much-loved, regular column known as Mikey's Diary, which recorded the exciting exploits and outspoken views of the Jack Russell terrier belonging to the Editor, Maureen Lloyd.
Since the closure of Rhosgoch School in the summer of 2013 Maureen has worked hard to maintain publication of regular issues of the Gossip by involving as many local residents as possible in contributing news items and articles of interest that have attracted widespread acclaim and support. Thankfully, Mikey also continued to pen his views on a variety of topical issues, although his increasing tendency to wander abroad from his home often resulted in a greater degree of editorial control. Sadly, Mikey eventually succumbed to old age and passed away in July 2019. He will be greatly missed.
The Rhosgoch Gossip is published every two months and is available to purchase at Clyro Filling Station and at meetings of the Painscastle Farmers Buying Group. It is also available by subscription at £6 per annum for delivery in Rhosgoch and Painscastle and adjoining areas, or at £12 per annum by post. The newsletter is non profit-making and relies on sales to support itself and therefore only archived copies will be made available on this site.
The editor welcomes all correspondence, letters, articles, news, comments, etc and also offers advertising space for local residents and businesses. For further details please contact Maureen Lloyd on 01497 851609 or by email.
